Backup solutions that focus on protecting the virtual environment are becoming increasingly popular. Companies participating in this market include Veeam and PHD Virtual (acquired by Unitrends). But there is another company that is sometimes left out of the conversation that…
Across many data center environments, business data and new applications are rapidly proliferating. In large part, server virtualization has contributed to this growth since it removes many of the logistical barriers for bringing new business systems online. And while there…
“The biggest risk to success is perpetuating the status quo.” So said VMworld CEO, Pat Gelsinger, during his keynote address at VMworld. He went on to say that, “Today’s world is stuck in silos. Developers against IT, on-premise against off…
This is part two of Storage Switzerland’s test drive of WD’s DA2300 Backup Appliance that features the WD Arkeia backup software. In part one we went through the set up and configuration steps, getting backup clients connected to the system…
Backup systems are coming under fire. Data explosion is certainly part of the problem, but it’s more than just a capacity issue. Backup systems are being asked to do things they were never designed for, like storing largely unchanging data…
Maintaining the right level of uptime for newly virtualized critical applications is a key requirement for virtualization administrators. In this higher stakes, virtualized world time tested techniques like establishing recovery point and recovery time objectives are as critical as ever. In this report Storage Switzerland’s lead analyst, George Crump helps you design a data protection strategy for VMs that are critical to the business.
We will discuss the testing methodology and scalability results for 4 & 8 node clustered Hitachi NAS Platform 4000 systems yielding 15,000 VMs in real-world enterprise environments. The test establishes linear performance scalability as nodes are added to the cluster,…
VM density is something companies are striving for as they work to lower the TCO of their virtualized environments. The question is, how dense can you get; how many VMs can your successfully run on each host? In this Storage…
Virtualization specific backup applications, like Veeam, are the fastest growing segment of the data protection market, and for good reason. They promise to provide better, faster and more accurate data protection, while almost eliminating application recovery times. But the challenge…
IDC recently recognized Dell as the leader in total terabytes sold (internal and external), and strengthened our stance that Dell is well positioned as we continue down the road to software defined storage and converged infrastructure. Dell is unique among…
