The ExecEvent Goes Cloud and Virtual

Storage Switzerland will be attending the ExecEvent’s Cloud and Virtualization focused event in Santa Clara this week. Personally this is one of my favorite events. My hat is off to its organizer Greg Duplessie and his team. The ExecEvent is the business end of other technology shows. Basically a VMworld or Storage Networking World (SNW) without the trade show floor. It provides analysts like us the opportunity to spend more time than normal with vendors in these markets to dive deeper on their solutions.

If you are a vendor in the cloud, virtualization or storage space and you are not here, slap yourself and get signed up for the next one. If you are an IT professional this event will benefit you too. Why is this allegedly industry insiders event important to IT professionals just trying to get a job done? Simple, the more we learn and understand a technology the better able we are to convey that information to you. The more suppliers exchange information and debate subjects the better solutions and partnerships will emerge.

At these events we have unprecedented access to leaders in these markets. We also have the opportunity to lead and listen too various panel discussions, at shows we don’t typically have that opportunity because we are packed in with briefings and show activities. Again it provides us the ability to dive deeper and be able to relay that information to you.

This week we will be meeting with:

Druva – a laptop/desktop backup vendor, with unique WAN data efficiency capabilities.

Infinity Storage – An Automated Storage Tiering Solution promising to bring down Primary Storage investments.

Nimble Storage – a “tier everything” storage solution that provides high performance storage and data protection in a single solution.

CTERA – A cloud enabled Hybrid NAS Solution, that we are currently testing in our labs.

Panzura – enables Global Collaboration and File Sharing of the same data so that users can work on one document simultaneously in multiple locations.

Zetta – A high performance Cloud NAS solution.

Cleversafe – the inventors of dispersed storage, ideal for Geographic Cloud Storage needs.

SolidFire – A Solid State only solution designed to be the storage engine for the Compute Cloud.

Arkeia – Backup software solution with a new way of providing Deduplication as well as complete coverage of all the major Operating Systems and Applications.

Virsto – A vendor making the hypervisor a Storage Hypervisor by enabling more powerful Snapshots, Clones and Thin Provisioning.

Texas Memory Systems – We go all the way to California to meet with this Texas based Solid State Provider that is revolutionizing shared solid state storage. They have unique capabilities in parallelizing I/O, critical to get maximum performance out of memory based storage.

Those that are familiar with our show format know to expect briefing notes on each of these meetings plus any that can squeak into one of the couple remaining slots. Also expect detailed analysis of the various panels that we either host or attend. Check back frequently for a continuous stream of updates from the event. It is going to be a fun week, full of information and knowledge!
