SlideShare: Flash Myth: Flash is for Everything vs. Flash is for One Thing

Different workloads demand different attributes from their storage. These differences lead some to believe flash storage is only good for certain point use cases like accelerating databases. But the performance of flash systems lead others to claim a single flash system can support all workloads. The truth, as usual, is somewhere in the middle. Join Storage Switzerland and IBM for this on demand webinar where we bust another flash myth and help you select the right flash for the right workload for the right reasons.

There are many workloads that benefit from all-flash arrays and they fall into these 5 categories; business critical data (Oracle), virtualized storage initiatives (storage consolidation), virtual infrastructures (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM), cloud infrastructure (Large VMware, VDI) and big data analytics (Hadoop, Spark). Most data centers have at least three to four of these different workloads and each of these workload types have their own specific requirements beyond just the improved performance that a flash array can deliver. A virtualized storage infrastructure project needs advanced data services, where a cloud infrastructure project needs multi-tenancy optimization, data efficiency and a business critical environment might need extremely high performance and reliability. Big data storage on the other hand needs cost-effective, dense storage while still providing flash performance.

The problem is that most flash vendors offer only one flash storage solution and try to convince the IT professional that a single product can solve all of these problems because of its performance potential. The reality is that performance in and of itself is not enough. In this webinar you will learn how to assess your workloads to determine what your needs are and what type of flash system is best suited to meet those demands.
