Migrating from one generation to another generation of tape technology may seem like a difficult task. In practice, though, tape migration is relatively straightforward and provides tremendous ROI thanks to each generation’s increase in performance and capacity.
In this Whiteboard Video, Alan Hale, with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), joins George Crump, Lead Analyst at Storage Switzerland, to discuss the advantages of tape migration. NOAA is responsible for environmental awareness data to help protect life and property. NOAA captures the majority of their data from satellite images, about 6TBs per day, so managing capacity is critical in their environment. In this Whiteboard session, Alan walks us through their process of migrating to LTO8 and the advantages they enjoy as a result of that migration.
