How do you cover Virtualization, Big Data, Cloud, Compliance and Software-defined Storage?

SNIA’s DSI Conference can help with all the hats you wear

Things really changed after the financial downturn a few years ago. First, IT staffs got thinner at the height (depths) of the recession and people had to pick up the slack and cover the functions that others used to do. They had to wear a lot of hats. Then the recovery came, but many companies haven’t replaced those people that were part of the downsizing. For the IT folks who remained, the hats they’ve had to wear, they now own.

So what do you do if you’re the network person at your company and you’re now in charge of network storage (the SAN administrator is gone)? Or what if the database administrator now has to be the ‘Big Data’ analytics expert? What if you’re the sys admin who handled an eDiscovery requirement a while back and now you’re being asked about PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliance?

Where do you go to get a range of information about a variety of topics facing an IT organization that’s still short staffed? You go to the standards organization, of course: SNIA. Whether it’s to gain a full-fledged certification in a particular discipline or just to obtain some working knowledge, SNIA’s Data Storage Innovation (DSI) Conference is a good place to come. It’s being held at the Santa Clara Convention Center April 22-24, 2014.

You many need a technical deep dive so that you can do something, like organize a new technology project that’s landed on your plate. Or you may need the information so that you can be sure your company doesn’t need to do something, like worry about a compliance issue. You may just need to keep up with a topic like whether the cloud has finally become a viable alternative for your DR strategy (or you need a DR plan). In any case, having all this information and these experts available in one place can be a big help.

At DSI there are multiple sessions on each of the following technology tracks. There are also sessions on Professional Development, Emerging Technologies and Hot Topics.

  • Cloud Storage
  • Storage Architecture
  • Solid State Storage
  • Software Defined Storage
  • Storage Plumbing
  • Analytics and Big Data
  • Storage Performance
  • Storage Management
  • Security
  • Virtualization
  • Cover your Assets (CYA)

So if you’re wearing more hats that you thought possible, you’ve been given a new task (someone’s previous job) or are just wondering where to get the technology updates you need, SNIA has the answer.
