Scale-Out All-Flash Solution with Micron, Nexenta and SuperMicro
Software Defined Storage (SDS) solutions bring the ultimate in flexibility but it does require that IT professionals work through the process of fine tuning the software with both the storage hardware and the environment that will use its storage services. The need to properly match hardware configuration with software based storage services is potentially no more prevalent than when designing a storage infrastructure for next generation operating environments like OpenStack or container technology like Docker. Nexenta, Micron, and SuperMicro are teaming up to create an appliance-like reference architecture designed specifically for these environments.
At the heart of the system is NexentaEdge, as Storage Switzerland detailed in its briefing note, “Nexenta Releases Storage for Persistent Docker Containers“, the software is designed specifically for OpenStack and container environments. But unlike many next generation storage solutions it brings with it features that the enterprise counts on like deduplication, compression and advanced data protection.
With this reference architecture NexentaEdge is bundled with Micron SSD and DRAM as well as SuperMicro storage servers. The all-flash configuration can deliver 3X-10X the performance of more traditional hybrid configuration.
In a recent webinar, now available on-demand, Storage Switzerland reviewed the use cases for this system and well as the specific details of the architecture with experts from Nexenta, Micron and SuperMicro. Click here to watch the event as our panel discusses the merits of this new solution.
