Why IT Needs A Vendor Neutral Technology Showcase
Many of today’s IT industry trade shows are hosted by the big industry juggernauts. While many of these events have value, the fact is, you’re only playing in their “World”. In other words, these tend to be highly controlled settings where the messaging is carefully controlled and the participating vendors are selectively chosen. This may be less of an issue if IT decision makers had the opportunity to attend multiple events but the fact is, busy IT people either don’t have the time or the travel budget (or both) to go on the “event circuit”. That’s why events like SNIA’s “Data Storage Innovations” (DSI) show, (April 22nd – 24th) offers a more open forum for IT suppliers and end-users alike to assemble on a more level playing field.
In addition to a vendor showcase which includes many of the familiar IT “household names”, there will also be a wide variety of newer industry players to round out the supplier field in attendance. This is an important distinction because for the busy IT guy with a limited travel budget, it is important to have the opportunity to get multiple perspectives on how to best solve day-to-day operational issues while preparing for next generation data center storage architectures (like hybrid cloud computing). Moreover, industry analysts, like Storage Switzerland, will also be participating in the event; so end-users can get yet another perspective on technology trends that will impact their businesses.
Certification and Peer Sessions
One of the other significant values to the DSI event is the opportunity for storage professionals to attend the one day storage certification workshop the day before the event on April 21st, as well as the “birds of a feather” breakout workshops that will take place during the event. This is a great opportunity for the IT pro to add a valuable certification credential to their resume while trading ideas with their peers about a variety of storage networking issues.
Each day of the event also features an extensive menu of SNIA Tutorials. Technology suppliers, IT integrators and end-users will be presenting on subjects ranging from hybrid cloud security to effective storage management of virtualized application workloads to Big Data analytics; to name just a few of the available sessions.
For IT executives, the DSI show contains an extensive roster of senior executives from well established technology firms to intriguing new industry startups. Many will be present on the exhibit floor and some will be giving presentations during the show.
And for those of you looking for an escape from the less than balmy conditions in many parts of the country this time of year, the SNIA DSI conference will be held in sunny Santa Clara, CA. To register for the DSI conference, please click on the following link:
